Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) is part of University of Utah Health. Every year, HCI serves thousands of cancer patients from Utah and the surrounding states. HCI also teaches and trains future doctors, nurses, and scientists.

HCI is the only National Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Center in the Intermountain West. This means it meets the highest national standards for cancer care and research and receives support for its scientific endeavors.

HCI is also a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), a not-for-profit alliance of the world’s leading cancer centers. NCCN is dedicated to improving the quality and effectiveness of care provided to patients with cancer.

Dr. Chan received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School, completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of Wisconsin, and her Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the University of Utah. Following fellowship she completed a Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Fellowship at the University of Colorado/Children’s Hospital Colorado. Dr. Chan is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. She is a member of the neuro-oncology team at Primary Children’s Medical Center. Dr. Chan’s clinical interests include the care of children and young adults with brain and spine tumors. Dr. Chan’s research interests are focused on the development of early phase clinical trials for children with central nervous system tumors and the long-term care of patients who have survived these cancers.

Dr. Mangum received his bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Utah and his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his Pediatric residency at Primary Children´s Hospital (affiliated with the University of Utah), which was followed by a pediatric Hematology Oncology Fellowship at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Afterwards, he completed an additional two year Physician Scientist Training Program fellowship at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while still also continuing to care for patients. Dr. Mangum was subsequently on faculty at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware with an academic appointment at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College from 2019 - 2022. In 2022, Dr. Mangum joined the Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology at the University of Utah, where he is now an associate professor. In his clinical time, he is an attending physician at Primary Children’s Hospital where he focuses on caring for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and histiocytic disorders. Dr. Mangum’s primary academic interests are focused on Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He is an active member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), and is the current Leukemia / Lymphoma working group leader within the Pediatric Oncology Experimental Therapeutics Investigator’s Consortium (POETIC).
