Nawal Merjaneh, MD, MS, is a specialist in solid tumor oncology with the Phoenix Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. She serves as an assistant professor of child health at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

Growing up, Dr. Merjaneh saw her parents change lives through their work as physicians. Their dedication to caring for their patients inspired her to follow their path. After earning a medical degree at the University of Aleppo in Aleppo, Syria, Dr. Merjaneh completed a pediatric residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville, Florida. Subsequently, Dr. Merjaneh completed a pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, followed by an additional fellowship training in molecular oncology. Dr. Merjaneh also completed a master’s in clinical and translational research at the University of Cincinnati.

Knowing the importance of research to improving the lives of children with cancer, Dr. Merjaneh is dedicated to finding ways to advance treatments for solid tumors and sarcomas. She was among researchers funded to conduct high-risk, high-reward research through a “New Ideas Award” by CancerFree Kids and, subsequently, was awarded the Hyundai Hope On Wheels Young Investigator Award. Dr. Merjaneh has published numerous research papers and presented at professional conferences and meetings.

Dr. Merjaneh’s research supports her belief that every patient is unique and deserves targeted treatment personalized for the genetics of their tumor.
